The End of Carpet?
You likely won’t find carpet featured in the pages of home furnishing and design magazines. To those self-appointed arbiters of what’s in and what’s not, carpet is passé.
But they’re wrong.
Carpet still accounts for more than half of all flooring sold in America. And there are lots of good reasons for it.

The Benefits of Carpet
Let’s start with style, design and color. Once you venture beyond boring beige, you’ll find color and texture and pattern that can liven up any room. Don’t be afraid to use bright colors and your carpet will reward you with a cheery space that feels light and airy. In darker shades, it is the perfect backdrop for other design elements in the room.
Then there’s texture and pattern. From soft, nubby yarns to stripes and swirls, carpet offers you design flexibility beyond what any other floor can.
Worried about performance? Don’t.
Stain resistant treatments have long since proven themselves up to the task and are often built right into the carpet fiber for long lasting protection.
Textured and level loop carpet styles are also effective at hiding traffic patterns.
Got pets? Yes, there are carpets for that – designed to handle pet accidents and more.
People think carpet is not the right choice if you have allergies. Not true. Carpet has been proven to trap airborne allergens and keep them out of the breathing zone. By doing so, carpet actually contributes to better indoor air quality. Use a HEPA filter vacuum and you may find your allergy symptoms lessen, not worsen, with carpet.
Comfort is another area where carpet simply can’t be beat. There’s nothing quite like the feel of carpet underfoot – soft, plush and cozy.
Like to walk around barefoot? Then carpet is definitely right for you. Hot or cold, carpet has a “warm” feel to it that can’t be matched. And it’s not just how it feels – carpet’s thermal insulation qualities help maintain indoor temperatures regardless of what the weather is outside.
Then there are more practical considerations: carpet is a sound barrier that you’ll come to love especially in places like family and media rooms or anywhere the family gathers.
There’s also a safety factor to carpet that no other floor offers. Traction is one. Whether you’re young or old, slip resistance can help prevent falls. And if you do fall, well at least you land on a cushiony surface.
Of course, carpet can be one of the least expensive flooring options – for both material costs and installation – if you so choose. Speaking of installation, it’s great at hiding ugly and even damaged subfloors – simply cover them up!
Think carpet is passé? Think again.
