Ceramic Tile Installation: Easy To Be Hard
Ceramic tile is one of the easiest floors for a do-it-yourself project – until it isn’t.
Tile is hard, it breaks, it’s hard on your knees, it’s a sloppy mess, it’s heavy. And it can get complicated real fast.
Get ready for tight spaces, broken tile, potential cracking, subfloor issues.
Ever use a tile saw? Good luck. Get ready for multiple oddly shaped cuts to fit everything into place. Like playing in the mud? I hope so.
You’re starting to get the picture.
At the same time, ceramic installation is expensive, sometimes even more expensive than the tile itself. And that means money in your pocket if you can pull off a successful DIY installation.
First step is to look for YouTube tutorials to run you through the basics. Look through a few and see which one suits you best.
If you are doing it yourself, please take a look at this YouTube video from the National Tile Contractor’s Association:
While meant for professionals (see the knee pads?), it points out the proper way to install tile and how to avoid installation errors.
Go ahead, you can do it. I’m rooting for you!
